How to build an E- commerce website?

I need a website where I can sell my customized/personalized gift baskets. I don%26#039;t want to sell on Ebay. I want something more classy and sophisticated. I need secure shopping for my customers, yet I want a site I can build for free or atleast really cheap. I have no website developing experience or knowledge so please explain all answers as clearly as possible.

I need step by step instructions on how to go about getting started.

I also need a web host, domain name site and I need a host that has great server service with minimum down time. Thanks.

http://www.godaddy.com is the cheapest web host around, I have never had any problems with them being down or inaccessible, great value for a starting website.

http://www.oscommerce.com/ is free shopping cart software, it takes some tinkering to get working how you want. It does the job well though. It took me a weekend only to get setup and working at http://www.penwish.com/.

You need to learn PHP,Mysql check w3schools.com

Alternatively you can contact a web designer to set it up for you.

Reply:Some people like to use Google Pages and their google checkout functions. Others like Yahoo Stores ecommerce that are user friendly. There are build your own stores like Magento which probably require programming.

The steps are:

1. Buy a URL

2. Find a hosting company

3. Find a platform for the store to build on for web format and ecommerce setup.

4. Build your site with search engines and key phrases people would use to find your product in mind

5. Market your site by word of mouth first to everyone you know.

Reply:If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months%26#039; time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.

I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.

They offer hosting of %26quot;unlimited domains%26quot; and you will get massive webspace of 300000 MB (300 GB ). They only charge $5.95/month and they offer %26quot;a free Domain Name%26quot; and installing service called %26quot;Fantastico%26quot;. Reply:Hi lalah,

Perfect! If you don%26#039;t want to be fiddling about with complex scripts and brain melting codes tryout http://uk2.net/e-commerce/

From what I can understand it%26#039;s an all %26quot;inclusive e-commerce solution%26quot; i.e. Store Front, pre-set Payment/Delivery options and also Marketing tools. You%26#039;ll also be able to get your Web Space and Domain through them at the same time rather than have to deal with a plethora of companies. With regard to Security and Up time UK2 are one of the biggest Web Hosts in Europe and according to www.pingdom.com and www.hyperspin.com have a near 100% uptime record.

Haven%26#039;t tried it myself but they%26#039;re offering half-month tester period for free, probably worth a go?

Hope this helps.
